		In October of 2010 Sacred Heart Parish in Alvord, IA celebrated the final mass with Bishop Nickless. The parish was founded in 1891 but the number of parishioners had diminished due to area demographics. The faith fostered by the people of the parish continues in many ways. The children who grew up there and received their foundation in faith before moving on. The former parishioners who are now part of surrounding parishes contribute to the life of these communities. Finally the former parishioners have been very generous in sharing items from their church with other churches that need them. It is important that these cherishes items find a home where they can continue to call people to reflect on the mysteries of our faith. Today, Sat. April 16, the large crucifix is beginning it's journey to its new home at Christ the King, Parish in Sioux Center, IA. (Christ the King officially became a parish on July 1, 2010.) Former parishioners gathered at 12:30 p.m. to begin Holy Week with the stations of the cross one last time in their church. At the conclusion of this service, those from Sacred Heart came forward and carried the crucifix out of the church where they passed it on to representatives of St. Mary parish in Rock Valley and Christ the King, Sioux Center. They will carry the cross in pilgrimage to St. Mary in Rock Valley, 11 miles. The crucifix will remain at St. Mary's through Good Friday Service at Noon. Following the service the pilgrimage will resume as the cross is carried from Rock Valley to Sioux Center (15 miles.) That evening it will be carried into Christ the King for the Good Friday evening service and later will take it's place hanging behind the altar. Those participating in this pilgrimage have a special way of being in touch this Holy Week with Jesus journey to Calvary where he won for us our salvation. Fr.
